Wheat and corn are two crops that have nourished us for centuries. We at Roquette have mastered the art of cultivating these grains and, along with their positive nutritional image, have made best use of their wholesome benefits and the natural sugar within them to manufacture maltitol.
Guaranteed traceability
The cereals used by Roquette - transported via several trains per day for the Lestrem, France site alone - are analyzed to ensure that they comply with our strictest quality standards. Adhering to our best-in-class supply chain policy, each manufacturing site evaluates the batches it receives using physico-chemical analysis. Traceability is therefore guaranteed from the moment the cereal is harvested, and suppliers (cooperatives and carriers) are regularly audited. This constant vigilance has earned Roquette the trust of the most exacting stakeholders in the food processing industry.
Essentials for a balanced diet
Originally from America, corn was discovered by Europeans in the late 15th century. Today, it is cultivated and consumed all over the world, and is still very much a staple of the Latin American and Central African diets. Corn is sown in the spring and flowers in summer, when the precious ears appear, and is harvested at various stages of maturity, depending on its intended use.
Wheat probably holds the title of the world's oldest crop: 10,000 years ago, it grew wild in Mesopotamia. Its cultivation spread rapidly in countries with temperate climates and fertile land. It is sown in the fall to be harvested in early summer.
In a recent study*, consumers were overwhelmingly positive about cereals: 97% of those surveyed believe that cereals are essential to a balanced diet, and that they are good and healthy.
What's more, cereals are also a renewable raw material, making them sustainable and another positive reason to enjoy them.
